Sinderby Village Green

Is there anything more evocative than a village green?
Back in 1923, when our grandparents were given the farm as a wedding present, the whole area was farmland. In 1995 we had the idea of using some of our land to create a focal point to the village and came up with the idea of the green, right opposite our farmhouse. It makes a welcome sight in Spring and we love hearing the kids charging around it on their bikes. The green provides a recreation space for everyone and it is astonishing to see how the trees have shot up since 1998.
When we built the cottages, we were pondering what to name them. We had various ideas but none of them seemed right. They just didn't fit with our farm or its history.
Our lovely local market town, Thirsk has been named as one of the country’s '“best kept secrets’! Tom Stables, managing director of National Express UK Coach, says: “For many people Thirsk, with its picturesque riverside location and charming cobbled market place, truly is a hidden gem”.
Our farm is organic so we don’t use any herbicides and sometimes get unexpected weeds ‘popping up’ among the crops. Here is our wheat field behind the cottages!
